Buleleng Regency, the largest district in north Bali



Buleleng Regency in north part of Bali Island occupied the largest area in Bali Province. The regency in North Bali stretches form northeast side to westernmost area in Bali Island. Buleleng Regency total area is 1,365,88 square kilometers with 144 kilometers length shorelines. The West Bali National Park or Taman National Bali Barat, the only national park in Bali Province administratively is in Buleleng Regency area. Buleleng Regency landscape consist of highlands, valleys, rivers, waterfalls, shoreline and endemic species in Bali Island.

Buleleng Regency geographically located at 08º 3′ 40” – 08º 23′ 00” South Latitude and 114º 25′ 55” – 115º 27′ 28” East Longitude. Administrative borders of Buleleng Regency are Karangasem Regency in east side, Bangli Regency, Badung Regency, Tabanan Regency and Jembrana Regency at south side, Bali Straits at west side and Bali Sea at north side. The capital of Buleleng Regency is in Singaraja, Buleleng Subdistrict at the middle of the regency.


The total area of Buleleng Regency is 1,365.88 square kilometers, shared by 9 subdistricts, consist of 129 villages, 19 Kelurahan, 550 sub-vilagges and 58 lingkungan. The subdistricts are Gerokgak Subdistrict with 356.57 square kilometers, Seririt Subdistrict 111.78 square kilometers, Busungbiu Subdistrict 196.62 square kilometers, Banjar Subdistrict 172.60 square kilometers, Sukasada Subdistrict 172.93 square kilometers, Buleleng Subdistrict 46.94 square kilometers, Sawan Subdistrict 92.52 square kilometers, Kubutambahan Subdistrict with 118.24 square kilometers and Tejakula Subdistrict with 97.68 square kilometers.

Buleleng Regency geomorphology consist of shorelines, island, lowlands and highlands. The altitude range of Buleleng Regency land areas are 0 to 1,865 meters above sea level. The north part of the regency is all the Bali Province north shoreline and the low land and mountainous area at the south part. Based on the Buleleng Regency in Figures 2022, two of the Buleleng Rengency's subdistricts have no shoreline area. Busungbiu Subdistrict altitude at 234 to 1,036 meter above sea level and Sukasada Subdistrict which is lied at 62 to 1,821 meters above sea level. 

Gerokgak Subdistrict altitude is 0 to 1,181 meters above sea level, Seririt Subdistrict at 0 to 1,012 above sea level, Banjar Subdistrict at 0 to 1,865 meters above sea level, Buleleng Subdistrict at 0 to 293 meters above sea level, Sawan Subdistrict at 0 to 1.821 meters above sea level, Kubutambahan Subdistrict at 0 to 1,548 meters above sea level and Tejakula Subdistrict at 0 to 875 meters above sea level. 73,493 hectares of Buleleng Regency areas have slope elevation between 0 to 25% (percents) and 23.963 hectares have aslant elevation at 25 to 40% (percents) sloping. The natural landscape of Buleleng Regency which 25% sloping land area on the mountainous area make the regency have many geological features. Many waterfalls found in Buleleng Regency, they are Gitgit, Waterfalls, Gitgit Graded Waterfalls, Sambangan Waterfalls, Carat Waterfalls at Kubutambahan Subdistrict, Melanting Waterfalls, Munduk Waterfalls, Singsing Waterfalls at Banjar Subdistrict, Les Waterfalls and Yeh Mampeh Waterfalls at Tejakula Subdistrict. Some beaches in Buleleng Regency are Penimbangan Beach, Kerobokan Beach, and some gravels beaches along the shorelines. 


The beautiful mountainous and valleys landscape managed to be an ecotourism areas such as Wisata Alam Sudaji at Sawan Subdistrict, Wisata Alam Ambengan-Sambangan, Ricefield Terraces Ambengan, Banyuwedang Hot Springs and Yeh Panes Nirmala Hot Springs at Banjar Subdistrict. The variety of geological features, animals and plants in the forests of Buleleng Regency potentially can be developed and managed for the tourism industry.
