Badung Regency, the richest district in Bali for tourism industry

Badung Regency is the highest regency achieved benefits from the tourism industry in Bali. Based on Bali in figures, 2022, there are 443 classified accommodations at Badung Regency in 2018, and decreased to 394 accommodation in 2019, and again decreased to 289 classified accommodations in 2020 and increased to 308 classified accommodations in 2021. The number of the accommodation decreased for time range 2018 to 2020, but the number of rooms increased from 44,571 rooms in 2018 to 49,406 rooms in 2019 and decreased to 23,650 rooms in 2020 and the increased to 39,219 rooms in 2021. And the number of beds also increased from 66.654 beds in 2018 to 67,233 beds in 2019 and 45,700 rooms in 2020, but increased to 52,636 rooms in 2021. 

Geographic location of Badung Regency is 08º 14′ 20” – 08º 50′ 48” South Latitude and 115º 05′ 00” – 115º 26′ 16” East Longitude. Badung Regency bordered with Bangli Regency in east side, with Denpasar City, Gianyar Regency and Indian Ocean in south, Tabanan Regency and Indian Ocean at west and with Buleleng Regency at north side. The capital of of Badung Regency is Mangupura in Mengwi subdistrict. The capital of Badung Regency was at Denpasar City and then move to Mangupura after 1999. 

The total area of Badung Regency is 418,52 square kilometers, shared by 6 subdistricts. The subdistricts from north area to south area are Petang Subdistrict with 115.00 square kilometers or 27.48% or Badung Regency total area, Abiansemal Subdistrict 69.01 square kilometers or 16.49% of Badung Regency total area, Mengwi Subdistrict 82.00 square kilometers or 19,59 of Badung Regency total area, North Kuta Subdistrict 33.86 square kilometers or 8.09 of Badung Regency total area, Kuta Subdistrict 17,52 square kilometers or 4.16 of Badung Regency total area and South Kuta Subdistrict 101.13 square kilometers or 24.16 of Badung Regency total area. The Spatial Agency of Bali Province mention that there are 62 villages and/or kelurahan in Badung Regency and 120 cultural villages or Desa Adat. 

The altitude of Badung Regency based on Badung Regency in Figures, 2022 are 0 to 2,075 meters above sea level. The highest point is at Petang Subdistrict in Northern most part of Badung Regency which topographically lied at 275 to 2,075 meters above sea level. Abiansemal subdistrict at 75 to 350 meters above sea level. Both subdistrict Petang and Abiansemal have no shorelines areas. Mengwi subdistrict altitude is 0 to 350 meters above sea level, North Kuta 0 to 65 meters above sea level, Kuta 0 to 27 above sea level and South Kuta altitude 0 to 28 meters above sea level.

Badung Regency has most of accommodation for classified and non classified accommodation such as hotels, resorts and guest houses in Bali Province. The number of non classified accommodation in Badung Regency in 2018 was 1,890 accommodation, 28,371 rooms and 40,345 available beds, decreased to 1.492 accommodation, 25,350 rooms and 33,892 available beds in 2019. For 2020, the number of non classified accommodation decreased to 1,464, 31,862 rooms and 27,497 available beds and continued decrease to 827 accommodation, 12,239 rooms and 16,411 available beds in 2021.

The total number of classified hotels in Badung Regency in 2021 was 308 classified hotels consist of 60 hotels classified as 5 Stars hotels, 102 hotels classified as 4 stars hotels, 119 hotels classified as 3 stars hotels, 26 hotels classified as 2 stars hotels and only 1 hotel classified as 1 star hotel. Bali Province in Figures 2020, mentioned that there were 403 classified hotels in Bali, and 308 of them are in Badung Regency area. 

The number of room and available beds for classified hotels in Badung Regency in 2021 were 13,349 rooms and 17,624 available beds for 5 Stars hotels, 15,208 rooms and 20,236 available beds for 4 stars hotels, 8,791 rooms and 12,290 available beds for 3 stars hotels, 1,860 rooms and 2,475 available beds for 2 stars hotels and only 11 available rooms and beds for 1 star hotel. The total number of classified hotel's rooms in Badung Regency in 2021 was 39,219 rooms from 46,302 hotel's rooms in all area of Bali Province. And, the total number of classified hotel's available beds in Badung Regency in 2021 was 52,636 beds from 63,194 hotel's available beds in all area of Bali Province. 

The statistic of tourism industry in Badung Regency for the availability of accommodation in the regency showed how massive is the regencies' incomes for the tourism activities. The number of classified and non classified accommodation in Badung Regency will generate indirect and non indirect supporting services for the accommodation construction, development, management and marketing aspects. The supply chains for the tourism industry business demands absolutely created multiplier effects for other industry supporting the tourism activities in Bali Island.
