Gianyar Regency, the crafting and culture arts center in Bali Island

Gianyar Regency knowns for the carving and painting arts products which is produce by the locals engravers. The crafts are hand made carved made from woods, stones, silvers and fibers and other raw materials. Lot of Gianyar's arts products mostly the crafts sell around Bali and exported abroad. The local architectures, historical and cultural building and culture arts performance wearing the Balinese traditional costumes and masks are the tourist attraction in Gianyar Regency area. 

Geographic position of Gianyar Regency is 08º 18′ 52” – 08º 38′ 00” South Latitude and 115º 05′ 29” – 115º 22′ 23” East Longitude. Gianyar Regency borders are with Klungkung Regency and Bangli Regency in east side, Denpasar City and Badung Strait at south, with Badung Regency at west side and with Bangli Regency at north side. The capital or Gianyar Regency is Gianyar Subdistrict in southeast side of Gianyar Regency.

Gianyar Regency in Figures 2022 stated that the total area of Gianyar Regency is 368 square kilometer. The area shared in 7 subdistricts, 64 villages and 6 Kelurahan. The Subdistricts in Gianyar Regency are Sukawati Subdistrict with 55,02 square kilometers, Blah Batu Subdistrict 39,70 square kilometers, Gianyar subdistrict 50,59 square kilometers, Tampaksiring Subdistrict 42,63 square kilometers, Ubud Subdistrict 42,38 square kilometers, Tegallalang Subdistrict 61,80 square kilometers and Payangan Subdistrict with 75,88 square kilometers. The largest subdistrict area in Gianyar Regency is Payangan Regency with 75,88 square kilometers and the smallest one is Blahbatu Subdistrict with 39,70 square kilometers area.

Gianyar Regency area altitude distributed at 0 to 950 meters above sea level. 3 subdistricts have shoreline areas to the Badung Strait Ocean, they are Sukawati Subdistrict with altitude range 0 to 125 meters above sea level, Blahbatu Subdistrict with altitude 0 to 175 meters above sea level and Gianyar Subdistrict lied at 0 to 425 meters above sea level. The other subdistrict are inland areas, Ubud subdistrict at altitude range 75 to 325 meters above sea level, Tampaksiring Subdistrict at 175 to 775 meters above sea level, Tegallalang Subdistrict at 225 to 975 meters above sea level and Payangan Subdistrict at 250 to 950 meters above sea level.

Bali Province in Figures 2022 described that Gianyar Regency is the third regency in Bali which has the most classified accommodation in year 2021. There were 31 classified accommodation in Gianyar Regency, Badung has the most 308 classified accommodation and the second was Denpasar City with 33 classified accommodation. The difference with Denpasar City was only 2 classified accommodation with Gianyar Regency. But, Gianyar Regency has 11 5-stars hotel and Denpasar only has 3 5-stars hotel. The 4-stars hotels in Gianyar Regency in 2021 was 12, 6 3-stars hotel, 1 2-stars hotels and 1 1-star hotel. 

The beautiful rice terrace fields in Ubud and Tegallalang are the most known areas for tourist in Gianyar Regency.  The other tourist destination in Gianyar Regency such as the Sacred Monkey forest, Tirta Empul Temple and Saraswati Temple, Tegenungan Waterfalls, Bali Safari and Marine Park, Bali Bird Park, Goa Gajah and Bali Zoo. The art products in Gianyar Regency is also a tourist attraction for visiting the regency. Crafts made of wood, silver and stones are many products which produce and sell in Gianyar. The Balinese traditional culture and art performances in Gianyar Regency are a tourist attraction which should not missed when visiting the beautiful villages scenery in Bali Island.
